Blue Ribbons for Meg Story Time at the Library

History comes alive at the Sturgis Public Library! On October 2nd a cavalry trooper from the Old Fort Meade Cavalry Museum will begin a series about children living on a frontier cavalry post in the Black Hills and he will bring along ponies for free rides. The stories are from a book entitled “Blue Ribbons for Meg” by Adele De Leeuw. Taking place at Ft. Miles , SD the book follows the adventures of a young girl from Boston and her friends at the fort. While Ft. Miles is fictitious it is based on stories told to the author by Col. Frederick Turner about his days at Ft. Meade in the late 1890’s and early 1900’s. Story time begins at 9:30 with special activities following, including pony rides, cranking ice cream, making pioneer toys, and the chance to win your own Blue Ribbon and Cavalry Medal. The program runs every Saturday in October except October 9. For more information contact the Sturgis Public Library at 347-2624.
